Enjoy a Short Walking Holiday in the Scottish Borders at Lornebank Homestay.

Lauderdale is famed for its rolling landscapes and the lovely Leader Water meandering through the valley. Its tributaries with their gorges and wooded cleuchs add further variety and beauty to the scene. There are walking routes to suit all, ranging from gentle rambles to more demanding hikes. There are 15 recommended routes, 13 were produced by Lauderdale paths network team, the other two are part of the Southern Upland Way - Lauder to Melrose and Lauder to Longformacus (pick ups can be arranged)

The map opposite depicts Blackchester Fort Circular 7.5 mls - the walk follows the old railway line towards Blackburn, then turns sharply uphill to the early-British hill fort of Blackchesters, commanding fine views of Lauderdale, as seen below. The return is over pleasant hill country via Pilmuir to Whitlaw and back along the edge of the Common into Lauder.
